A (Work in progress) short platformer featuring a bear who just wants to keep his picnic baskets to prepare for the winter. Unfortunately, the forest creatures don't seem to like this idea...

Made for the 2021 Autumn game jam.

Music, graphics, code, and sound effects were all created by me. I followed the pallet restriction but did not add a Day/Night cycle, as it didn't seem to fit with the themes and scope of this game.

tools:

  • Godot Engine - game engine
  • GIMP - backgrounds and tiles
  • Piskel - animated sprites
  • LMMS - Music and sound effects

Nice graphics! The characters and setting are super cute and charming. Controls are a bit off for my taste, definitely felt too much "slidey". Loved the music!

Super cute game, I really like the art. If you don't mind me saying I think the camera could improve by not following the player 1:1 & and adding things like coyote time and jump buffering would improve the game feel.
P.S. I loved that walking tower of acorns xD

Thanks! Those are definitely things I could add to make everything feel tighter. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great gameplay. I see potential with this game. the controls need some work. I felt a little out of control.

Wow, you've finished it, well done. I'm stressed by the slide, it's better to remove it until you figure out how to beat it.

Adorable game. Literally jumped in my seat when the acorn spat fire at me. Why did the acorns want my boi bear's baskets so bad?

Wow, this is great stuff! Love the art, SFX and the leaf effects. Controls are a little bit slippery for me but it didn't stop me having fun. Really impressive!

Really fun! I would suggest fixing the jump, though -- many times I press it while clearly (or seemingly clearly) on the ground and it doesn't jump.

Huh. I donā€™t seem to be having this issueā€¦if you could catch it on video or something I might be able to see what you are talking about.

Watch closely, many times for a few seconds after landing and running left the jump doesn't register.

Weirdā€¦I canā€™t seem to reproduce the problem on my machine, try as I might. Iā€™m wondering if it has to do with the particular keyboard youā€™re using or somethingā€¦Iā€™ll keep looking into it and let you know if I figure out anything.

Hey, I figured this out - it was my anti-virus adding "keylogger protection" to my browser. >_<

Hope you get a chance to check out my submission, rate and leave me some feedback!

I actually played it again, and I think it would be a really good speedrun game!

Very quick and fun platformer. The character feels smooth, and I really like the art assets and animations. I would love to see a story for this game. It is a super cool game.

Thanks!

Hello, did you draw the graphics yourself? What engine are you using?

(1 edit)

Yes I did! Iā€™m using the Godot engine.

Graphics were done using piskel and GIMP. I also did all the audio in LMMS.

Good job!

Hi, I see you're using Piskel. IDK if you know about Aseprite, it has more tools, more features, and whatnot. It is a paid program and if you need another pixel artist, be sure to take me in!

Hey! Yup, Iā€™ve heard of Aseprite. Iā€™m just too cheap to buy it (lol). Iā€™ve also tried LibreSprite (which is a branch of the open-source version), but Iā€™m just too used to Piskel at this point.

Not sure if Iā€™m planning on taking this any further after the jam. However, Iā€™d totally be open to working together in future jams!

Hello! Sure we can work on jams together. If you have discord then let's talk on discord. My DM is  ā’øā“Šā’·ā’ŗā’øā“‡ā“Ž#5529. I will start working on the Vampire-themed game jam, would you like to work with me?
